Tinnitus From Prescription Drugs
Most folk have no idea what actually causes tinnitus. Amongst some of the conditions and causes of conductive hearing loss and situations that can lead to tinnitus are such innocuous acts as taking your prescriptions medications. Finding the root cause of your tinnitus problem should be your first step on your road to tinnitus relief.
Take note of the following:
- Did your tinnitus symptoms just come on or get worse when you began a new medication?
- When exactly did you start taking that new prescription drug?
- Are you on multiple medications or have you recently changed to a new type or brand of your old prescription?
Any of these things could be in play if your medications are causing tinnitus. Try and figure out if the tinnitus worsened (or started) when you began taking a certain medication. If you feel that your meds could be causing your tinnitus, it s important for you to talk with the prescribing doctor right away.
Keep a records of your tinnitus symptoms. When does it get worse? One ear, Both ears? Noises you are hearing?
These records could help a professional pinpoint the cause of your problem. Finding the cause of your problem will be that much easier if you have detailed information to give your doctor.
Be aware that if it is indeed your prescription medications that are causing the tinnitus, you can treat the tinnitus. Simply stop taking that prescription drug. The ringing in the ears should slowly fade away.
It doesn’t always happen immediately and you may find it takes some time for the symptoms to go away completely, especially if you were on the medications for a long period of time. Whatever the case is, the intensity of the tinnitus levels should decrease significantly.
It may also be that there are several reasons, besides drugs for your tinnitus symptoms so you may need to take a broader approach
Often you will be able to find a suitable alternative to the prescription drugs with the associated side effects. Try homeopathic or herbal medicines instead.
