Is a Second Hand Hearing Aid a Good Idea?

When you go to shop for a hearing aid, there is something you will need to consider, and that’s whether you are going to get a new or second hand hearing aid.

Many folks feel that one way to save money easily is to purchase a used hearing device as opposed to a new one. But in the end, you’ll have to accept that repair costs are a part of any second hand hearing aid purchase.

Individuals who are thinking about whether or not to buy a used hearing device need to think about whether it fits within their own personal definition of good hygiene. The perils of getting a second hand hearing aid include things like sterility and fit. If you purchase a new one, you can be guaranteed that your device is clean and in good working order.

You must know that it was previously in another person’s ear and being used by them. There are actually too many problems dealing with the purchase of used hearing aids.

When comparing the cost of a new and a refurbished hearing aid, you will find that you’ll spend less on a new device when you consider the price of repairs and sterilization that will be necessary with a used hearing aid. Yes, buying new is a worthwhile investment. Even though you could find a used hearing aid for half the price, it could be a waste of money since it’s only going to fall apart eventually.

If you want some more facts on this subject, the best person that you can speak to is your audiologist. Patients frequently ask them if purchasing a used hearing device is advisable. As a result, your question is in no way unusual, and they’ll be happy to assist you with their professional opinions and advice.

Check the credentials of your supplier of choice if you decide you want to take this route and disregard any other advice you may have received to the contrary. This is especially critical if you are shopping for hearing aids online. It is important to take measures to be sure that the hearing aid device that you buy has both been cleaned and inspected for safety before you wear it. If you can’t program it, you will have to send it to an expert so he can adjust it for you.

Of course the decision is yours in the end. Some folks have been quite satisfied with a second hand hearing aid, whereas others have had nothing but problems. The cost-benefit situation seems to indicate that you are better off purchasing a new device, because they have come down in price in recent times.

  4. I can’t imagine my self using someone’s hearing aid. It’s a big no deal because aside of being not good for a proper hygiene, it’s a cost also for a reaper.
